Prostate Artery Embolization
Prostate artery embolization, or PAE, is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. BPH can cause urinary symptoms such as a weak stream, difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, urgency, waking up at night to urinate, and sometimes urinary retention. Unlike traditional prostate surgery, PAE does not involve inserting instruments into the urethra to remove prostate tissue. Instead, it reduces the blood supply to the prostate, causing the prostate to gradually shrink and relieving pressure on the urethra.
