Ileal Conduit
An ileal conduit is a surgical procedure, often performed when the bladder is removed or cannot function, that creates a new way for urine to leave the body. A small piece of your small intestine (ileum) forms a channel, bringing urine from the kidneys to an opening (stoma) on your abdomen, where it collects in an external pouch. This allows your kidneys to continue functioning while providing a safe and manageable way to divert urine.
