Lipomas are common, harmless (benign) growths of fatty tissue that form just under the skin. They usually feel like soft, movable, and often painless lumps. While their exact cause is unknown, they are generally not a health concern and often don't require treatment unless they grow large or cause discomfort; surgical removal is a common option.
